AAR: Normandy Firefight: British vs. Germans

Kalissa and I decided to play another home game, since we had the time to for a change. Besides, I tend to like to play on commission mats before they leave. In this case, we decided to play a game of Normandy Firefight. As usual, I have five of my pesky Germans versus my wife's British men. I had my leader with a St44, one man with an MP40, and the last three with KAR98 rifles. The British had two men with Sten Guns and three with rifles. Like most of the Normandy Firefight games, they also seem one sided games when getting into the action. I am not sure why, but it seems that the first person shot/killed on a side turns into a terrible day. In this game, it was not my side. In fact, I escaped with no one injured and three kills. One of my men with the MP40 ran around and shot one poor Brit in the back at point blank. Other deaths were caused from great rifle shots. Of course, Kalissa had a lot of fun, despite her demise, because she felt that gaming was very relaxing. That was almost a direct quote. Either way, I am sure I will have a bad game of German deaths in the future as usual. Until that time, here are photos of our game. Enjoy!

Yeah, I went the cheap way by just dropping sand on the matt for play purposes. This is a commission, so I could not add roads.

AAR: Bolt Action: French Country Encounter!

Sometimes, it is just easier to play games at home. In this case, our friend, Cy, Kalissa, and yours truly decided to play at our house the last Saturday. There were a bunch of 40k tournaments and such going on nearly everywhere. One was a 40K Pre-Tournament. What the hell is that? Why not just say it is just a tournament? It just seems redundant to me.
Anyway, about our game! We decided to play Bolt Action since Cy had never played these rules. Like all games Kalissa and I play, we do not care about points. I like the quote from the first Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean by Captain Barbossa: "They are more like guidelines!" That is how we feel about points. Plus, real combat tended to not be fair. So of you might think that the four Panther tanks might me a little strong for a list, but they proved to not hit well. The only Panther kill in the game was a half-track destroyed loaded with infantry. Only two infantrymen died in the half-track destruction. Not the result I was looking for. I also went with my psychotic moves with my 222 Armored car. Like normal, it died in a ridiculous fashion! It got killed with a British light mortar!
Overall, I think Cy enjoyed the rules. The game ended in a "Draw". We could not finish the complete game, but I think we will be able to play another one soon. It just was not possible to continue later with this game, since the mat was a commission project that had to go out. I was just happy to carry on the tradition of play at least one game on a project before it leaves. Anyway, here were the shots of our game. Enjoy!

AAR: What A Tanker: Bocage Country Slugfest!

It is nice when my wife is out of school for the summer, since we can pick up some random pick up games. Recently, with work and such, it have been a little difficult to running my "Mission Commission Success" games. This is were I have been contracted to make a mat for someone, and I try to play at least one game on it. The last four, this did not happen. However, I am cool with it, since some of the work I did I did not exactly have a game system I could play on it with. It was much like the Congo mats I did. In this game that we played, we were playing on a mat aimed for Napoleanics. Yeah, they had tanks! Sure!
Randomly, we recruited other friend, Cy into a game of What A Tanker. He had played before with us, but it was in 15mm and one small 28mm game the other week. This time, we played on the much larger scale of a 5' x 9' board at our house. That size might seem a little big, but when you consider my wife rolling abilities? Yes, her Cromwells were like Farraris! It took her no time to reach across the board. Something about the incredible sixes she rolled throughout this game. Lucky, I was also rolling fairly well this particular evening! I managed to win the game in general based on some well based rolling of sixes and such. But let's be honest; I should have been normally destroyed. I think that this game would have not been my fair if not for the later time frame.
