AAR: What A Tanker: Soviets Vs. Germans in 15mm.

For our first official game back in Fayetteville after our convention trip, Kalissa and I wanted to play something simple at Hobbytown. Our choice was What A Tanker. This is such an easy game to pick up on and play. At the start of the game, I was facing off with Kalissa. However, because my wife operates best with food, she kind of ditched me for it. At least she was nice about by teaching our friend, Joe how to play and take over. I say friend, but he is more like my wargaming nemesis. Through this blog, you can find other game we've played against each other. At the moment, he is still up on the number of games he had won against. I am not sure why we keep track of this, but it is part of the fun.
So Joe took over the Soviets which was a dramatic boost in morale. It did not take long for him to dispatch one of my Panthers. I was only able to knock out one SU-100 for revenge sake in this game. But the damage was done. I lost six tanks to his two. It was clearly a Joe victory. We will have to rematch with these rules again. Here are the rest of the photos. Enjoy!

AAR: Ronin: Kalissa's Historicon Game, The Seven Deadly Samurai Sisters!

For the last posts about this past Historicon, this is a post about my wife's Ronin games. She decided to run a Ronin game much around the same time as I was going to run my Pelelui Assault game. I am not sure if I will be able to do my vision with that game with the venue the convention is held at for next year without some careful planning. Besides, it has been concluded that both my wife, Kalissa and I have to run games next year. This was the second convention that Kalissa had ran a convention game, and I must brag that she is pretty good at it.
For her Ronin games, she ran three different games: two on Friday and one on Saturday. These were six player games, though, I ran the Lady Bushi faction who the main targets of the game along with the random civilians roaming around the village. Usually, most people do not play too many games where the objectives fight back. The game was called "The Seven Deadly Samurai Sisters". I did come up with the name, which was inspired by my love of badly dubbed Kung Fu movies. It is almost as bad as my Godzilla love. And for one individual who had came up to our table, because he  said that he had to see the game, for the title in the PELA was "Hot!" I am not going to judge, but if I get into writing trashy, romantic novels, I now know I can come up with a title.
All three games ran pretty well. The first and the last games had everyone who pre-registered show up. We were only short two players in the second game. Though, it is nice knowing that a game in filled in pre-registration, I do think it has caused some game filling problems. It could have been a filled game if people had to somewhat fight to get into it. This was something that happened last year at our games as well: filled pre-registration games with a bunch of  "no shows." Either way, the game was still playable. In all three games, there were different results in the end. The first game had only one of the seven sisters escape/survive. The second, only one out of seven was killed. In fact, due to the most amazing rolling I have ever done, I managed to kill so many people that I was told that I could not use those dice again at the convention! The third, all of the sisters were killed.
All in all, Kalissa and I had a lot of fun for this relatively small convention game. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and plenty of people came by with regrets to no getting in. I am sure that a forth game would have attracted enough players. We just look forward to next year's Historicon 2020!
