AAR: This Hallowed Ground: Violent Encounter in the South

It is not usual for Kalissa and I to play a game on a Sunday evening. We decided to play mainly, because I had already set up the game for Saturday. When friends of ours show up to our house, there  is really not an assigned game that everyone votes to play. I just tend to set something up just to peek interest. But I realize that most of are wargaming friends do not play much in the realm of games. It seems ever further in between actual games played. It is not that we do not have fun, but I have noticed that they is no real drive for any particular game system or period. This results in a lot of games showing up on this blog played mainly by myself and my lovely, slightly ruthless wife. It seems to be a little harder to get people into Historical games in our area. I sometimes wonder if it just the way we display our normal standard of games that sets the bar too high. Or do I have a third eye on my forehead no one has mentioned to me? These are just random open questions.
As for our games, it maybe the fact that we have very violent games. It is a natural gravitation for Kalissa and I to get into games that have violent, decisive outcomes. Part of the reason we like Bolt Action as a game were the quick and ruthless assaults in the game. The outcome of some awesome rolls can be a game changer. This is the case why we use our modified version of This Hallowed Ground. It is down and dirty when in comes to combat. We played this American Civil War game for a total of two hours with four turns. We lost three full regiment per side making the game a DRAW. It could be on the scary side for some observers that we have some many casualty markers. It could be making a scene of "Oh dear God, what happened here!" response. Of course, that is the plan! We like having games that promote questions. I think it adds to the game. Either way, below are our game photos. Enjoy, as always!

AAR: This Hallowed Ground: One Last Olustee Game

After getting home from our great time at Historicon, Kalissa and I took the next day relaxing. Somewhere in that timeframe, we were asked to try out our scenario at home. Part of this stemmed from still having our tables up from our playtest a few days before heading North. We had no problem with hosting a game on a Saturday.
Instead of six players like we had a Historicon, this was a four player game. Danny and I took the Confederates while Kalissa and Tim took the Union side. Not to insult my side too much, but Danny and I were facing off against two gaming foes that are fantastic at rolling. And both Danny and I are still know for doing bold daring actions. In this case, I costed our possible win with a highly aggressive assault against Tim's line. After stating his ability to roll dice, I am sure you know how it turned out. The rest of the game came down to mini-goals. If you are going to surely lose, mini-goals are the way too go. Danny's was to kill a regiment from each Union player. He did succeed! Mine was as simple as to get my reserve troops into action, since all of my starting forces were destroyed by turn two. In either case, this was a fun game to play out. I am glad for the request, since it was be a bit to play a game that big. I have project to finish, and new ones to start. The good news is that it will inspire me to play more game types. Below are the rest of the photos.
