This is just another photo heavy post that features the resent Siege of Augusta Bolt Action. I like to call it a success, since all three tournaments were played. It usually is a little rough gaining players considering the time of the year. Winter and all that comes with it seems to affect all tournaments in some way whether that be due to weather, the shared sickness like last year, and finances from the recovery of Christmas. This year, we lost players on the government shutdown. That did not help much.
However, life goes on and so did the tournaments. Being the loving husband, I joined in on all three tournament as the alternate. I usually only play if there is an odd number of players. I do not count in this tournaments for prizes or anything, since we do this for the love of the game or something like that. And in most cases, I am terrible in tournaments anyway. It is not like I do not try to win. I am not allowed to "throw" the tournament by playing badly. However, when you roll badly like I do, it sometimes seems like karma. I lost nearly all of the games I played it. In the singles tournament, I killed three of my own units on accident. Who knew that the artillery I was calling in would delay three turns until I was under the area. That one artillery strike killed the tank who would have auto won that game if the shell did not have a direct hit on it. Or the tank that assaulted a Soviet squad to kill it assaulted further into another one of my tanks to kill them both at the same time. I like to think of my luck as "something special" when it comes to gaming.
Either way, the Friday of the convention was the Doubles Tournament. I joined up with David Drake so that we would referred to as "Double D." I like to think that this stood for Dashing and Daring. Obviously, there are way more options. We did have fun, despite the constant beating of our troops. It was a happy enough event when we had a "Draw" in one game.
Saturday was the Singles Tournament. I lost all of the games, but had some fun with it. There were a lot of dead units for both sides in these games. One game, I had to get permission to play one more turn, since the results could change the standing dramatically in our unit death ratio. This was the game that resulted in my tank ramming that killed two of my tanks. I think the odds of that happening in the game was something like a 5% chance of doing that. Two tanks for one veteran unit. I am sure that was a fair trade in someone's universe?
Sunday was the Tank War tournament which was fairly fast paced. I can say that I rolled the worse on these games than the others combined. I lost everyone in two of the games. The other one was a draw. We did get some newer players that were not in the other two tournaments, which was pretty awesome. The point of these tournaments always was more for promoted our hobby and an excuse to play. The great thing is to see more and more interested in our tournaments. Hopefully, the next one will get more players. That will be in a few weeks from this post.
