Playing in Gangland: Calling Dick Tracy

This is the last posting for February, it seems. It is also the last Muster related game that I played. Based on how busy it has been for some commission work, I have not played any games with the exception of the game Hate. That would have been the last post for this month, if I had found out what I did with the photos. Personal organization was never my strong suit. That is more work related!
Anyway, I have wanted to play a gangster game for a while. Kalissa got lucky enough to play Chicago Way at Historicon one year, where as, I had not. In this case, this was a gangster game, but not Chicago Way. I cannot remember the name of the rules, though they are treated like playing in a movie script. Main characters have more actions than other figures who could be rated as supporting characters or just mobster/police "red shirts". Each area is treated like a scene in a film and is played out accordingly.
Of course, if I am going to play in a gangland type game, I was going to be a mobster. I had several mob members with all sorts of guns. Tommy Guns and pistols everywhere! Oh my! The Police had shotguns and rifle along with what the mob had. The goal of the game was to have the Hero find the damsel in distress. Kalissa made it clear that this would not  have occurred if she was in the game. The mobs job was to hide her and prevent the Hero from getting her out of trouble. Oddly enough, the hero looked like Dick Tracy. I think he was given another name in fear of some copy right issues. Besides, this game was a B movie anyway.
The game was full of action and both police and gang members were dropping like flies. In the end, the mob managed to ambush all over the police who seemed to be marching down the road in a parade. The mob won the game! Of course, this does not help in the project field of gaming for me. We had a friend of ours already give us some gangster figures with Tommy Guns. And with our Batman Kickstart stuff coming scheduled to be delivered in April, it looks that mobster games are going to pop up in our household. Below are the rest of the pictures. Enjoy!

AAR: Blood & Plunder: First Impressions and Game.

This is another post from Muster 2019. I have been a little on the busy side to post all of this earlier last week. However, I have one other one of these posts left before I continue on to more recent games. Blood & Plunder has been an interest to play, since it came out. It never seems like a hard push for gaming pirates. Why I have not even played a demo for this game is beyond me. It seems like I am involved in something else at most conventions. In this case, a local gamer friend, Joe was up at this convention and was planning on playing in the Blood & Plunder Tournament. The only thing was that he had played too many games a was rusty on the rules. So that hard push turned in a game against playing the escort scenario. Joe had enough figures to play against the list he had brought the tournament. He tried to make the forces and fair and equal as possible, though I did not care one way or the other. I was more interested in learning the mechanics of the game.
The scenario had my troops cross over a 4' x 4' board in a diangle escorting a nun to safety. In pure pirate fashion, there were lots of dirty jokes during game play. The game was pretty easy to get into. After turn one, I had a plan to get to my objective. Joe had to fight for his victory, but he was able to win in a final last melee attack from behind. I was really impressed with the game, which leads to dangerous problems. This might be a slight reason that I might have too busy play in demos. It is a trap! I know that I already have a mental board to design for this game. I might have to consider this after Historicon. Who can tell? I love lying to myself!

Joe and his naval fight in Blood & Plunder. I did not get to test that part of the game.

Muster 2019 Bolt Action Tournament

These are the photographies of my wife Bolt Action Singles Tournament at Muster 2019.  There were a total of eight players, which was nice to see we gained two more people from last year. That might not seem like much, but both tournaments were first time convention for Kalissa and I. It just happens that there were no hurricanes to interrupt this convention. We were just happy two see some repeat players and everyone having fun. We would not run these if they were no fun across the board. We plan on running this tournament again next year. Anyway, to the pictures!
