AAR: Buckskins & Rangers: Bushwackers Vs. Union Cavalry.

This last Saturday, Kalissa and I were play testing Buckskins & Rangers in a Civil War setting. The reason for this was that I plan on running a ACW gaming for Historicon 2020. The idea was to run a somewhat "what if" scenario on the famous raid on Lawrence, KS aka the Lawrence, KS Massacre. The idea is to run Quantrill's raiders in town and burn, loot, and kill (men only), but actually, stay and fight the Union cavalry that shows up, instead of running away. I got this idea for the movie "Ride with the Devil" where they show this. So need to find some rules with some more raider like qualities.
So Kalissa and I played this out with 12 men on each side. She played as the Union. I was the raiding bushwackers. The game went a little in my favor, since more cards were drawn in my favor. I got the first kill and started a fire in the first turn. I, also, bagged my first male civilian in the mission. The first turn took much longer than normal. More than a hour for it. This was partly due to the fact this was our second game playing with this rules. The second turn took off to be about thirty minutes. Melee tended to be much easier of a kill option. Since it is an American Civil War time frame, we both realized that these rules might have to be too heavily modified to work for my games rules. This was a combination of the designer's rules were for a earlier timeframe (French and Indian War) and that there were some gaming issues that reflected certain realities. Example: in a melee on horseback, you have a -6 modifier on a D20 using a carbine. I read this based on the fact that a carbine for cavalry would be attached to a sling wrapped around the rider's torso, so he could not just swing it at someone like a bat. Nothing is wrong with these rules for a home game, I just need to flow a little faster for my game. However, the building fire idea in this game we are going to use.
Our game ended when I killed all but one Federal. The Union soldiers were able to put out the second building fire. And I lost points for accidentally killing a female civilian, which a big negative in the game and Southern fighting honor. Kalissa killed all but four of my men, though only one was without a wound of some type. We had fun, however, I will just have to paint up the rest of our French and Indian figures for these rules. Below are the few photos of our game. Enjoy!

AAR: Lord of the Rings: After Christmas Game.

As previous post have show, at Hobbytown, we tend to play Lord of the Rings on Thursday nights. I had worked a morning shift and realized I was able to go for the first time in a couple of months. Kalissa usually went on her own while I was working. Most of the time, the people there have been playing Battle Companies. This is not a problem, but sometimes Lord of the Rings feels better in a normal fighting game. In a typically fashion in our wife vs husband games, we can care less about points. I just was pulling stuff out to play with. The orcs did not have to completely outnumber my wife's Rohan. She had more she could have pulled out, but she was fine with what she set up. Besides, I still have another 140 Rohan warriors to make and paint. We might have a lot. This same day, I bought her the new  book War in Rohan book.
Anyway, this turned in a slaughter for my wife's force. I was actually rolling great for a change! We ended the game in four turns. Otherwise, we spent the rest of the day hanging out with other wargamers. What social butterflies we are!

AAR: Star Wars: X-Wing: Star Wars Event at Hobbytown 12/21/2019

The weekend before Christmas, Kalissa and I went out to Hobbytown, USA to join a Star Wars gaming event run by our friend, Darion. He came up with a scenario that linked both Star Wars X-Wing with Star Wars Legion. I was interested in played, since I recently got the starter kit for Star Wars Legion: Clone Wars. I am still not finished putting them together. The droids have been getting some serious colorful language from me while building them. However, it was also an excuse to play something; anything at this point. It had been a full month of no games. This had to be rectified!
I was more interested in learning to play Legion, but I ended up playing along side my wife in an X-Wing game. We both played this game last time the second week it came out. One might say, that was a while ago. The scenario had us as Imperials trying to stop ships of reinforcements from reaching the surface of Hoth. The larger ships were blocking the ships and ran by my wife with no shooting abilities. I ran the six Tie-fighters with my awesome shooting abilities. Translation: I never shot down anything the whole game. However, the game clearly went with the Imperial Forces. The Rebels were wiped out by turn three on the ground, and the ships could not make it through the blockcade, because of my wife. She manage to ram and kill five ships. Yes, she is just as deadly without guns!

AAR: Bolt Action: 1st Polish Vs Germans

This was a game that was played in November, but it is better late than never on posting. It has been a rough month in the gaming world for my wife and I. Actually, it is more of a issue on my end. Retail tends to be very busy in the Christmas season. In this case, I have been working constantly. This is why the postings have been light. However, this one of those games that had to happen, because it is one of gaming rivals, Joe, who wanted to play.  This was his first time playing his Polish troops against me. However, he was up two games ahead of me in wins. Joe is one of my few fellow gamers that I actually keep up on wins and losses. This is mainly, because neither of us actually take our games seriously. Somehow, our games are very violent.
Anywho, we played a rather strait up fight. This was only a test of the emergency Polish Power and King Tiger. This was only a test. Yes, I was using a half painted King Tiger just to see if it did any good. I have a history of Tigers missing every shot. In our game, the King Tiger did fairly well. I was able to kill infantry. I could not hit armor for the life of me. The same can go for my sniper, but that is another story. I lost a lot of infantry in our game, but the Polish lost more. Joe and I know we will have another rematch. Who knows what game system it will be, but I look forward to it. Below are the rest of the photos. Enjoy!
