This is a posting showcasing the recent convention of Southern Front held in Raleigh, NC. It was the first one that Kalissa and I have gone to despite being asked about it or invited to it. After all, it makes sense for us to go to this show, since is a hour and a half from us! However interruptions seems to be the main problem during when it is held. Most of the Southern Fronts have been held in September. The first five were hi-jacked by school volunteer functions. I tend to do various volunteer work with my wife's school. Other times have been interrupted by hurricanes. Hurricane Matthew did a number to the state of North Carolina with lots of flooding. The same reason could apply to the year after that, but it was more of a hurricane rescheduling my father's funeral. This year's Southern Front almost did not happen with the coming of Hurricane Florence. It turns out that we were able to go only because one of the main roads to get to the show opened up the day before.
It has been a long time coming, but we finally got to visit this convention. It is not a very large convention. In fact, it is tiny. I think there was a total of 16 official PEL games and around 150 people. There might have been more, but we only attended for the afternoon. For a small convention, I can see why it is liked. It is an intimate affair with this convention. It was more of a gathering of old friends. In some ways, it felt like a rather large tournament with some nice looking games. I did not play anything, but Kalissa was sucked into a board game. However, we both agree that it was a nice little convention where we could meet up with some gaming friends we do not see as often. Below are just some of the Saturday games. We were there from 11am to 6pm. Still I wished I got into the bloody Medieval game. Anyway, enjoy!
