AAR: Normandy Firefight: British vs. Germans

Kalissa and I decided to play another home game, since we had the time to for a change. Besides, I tend to like to play on commission mats before they leave. In this case, we decided to play a game of Normandy Firefight. As usual, I have five of my pesky Germans versus my wife's British men. I had my leader with a St44, one man with an MP40, and the last three with KAR98 rifles. The British had two men with Sten Guns and three with rifles. Like most of the Normandy Firefight games, they also seem one sided games when getting into the action. I am not sure why, but it seems that the first person shot/killed on a side turns into a terrible day. In this game, it was not my side. In fact, I escaped with no one injured and three kills. One of my men with the MP40 ran around and shot one poor Brit in the back at point blank. Other deaths were caused from great rifle shots. Of course, Kalissa had a lot of fun, despite her demise, because she felt that gaming was very relaxing. That was almost a direct quote. Either way, I am sure I will have a bad game of German deaths in the future as usual. Until that time, here are photos of our game. Enjoy!

Yeah, I went the cheap way by just dropping sand on the matt for play purposes. This is a commission, so I could not add roads.

AAR: Normandy Firefight: Behold the Power of Grenades!!!

Right before Kalissa and I went to Siege of Augusta, I made it a point to make another quick board for her Bolt Action Tournaments, just to spice things up for returning players. Quick might be a little bit of a white lie! It certainly involved white fur. So for those of you who are wondering why I have not done any snow themed games, it is mainly based on a vision I have for them. I had my friend, Danny let me experiment with some left white fur he had found. I made a small snow board, but nothing that would work for larger games. Since I have been taking commissions for fur mats, I have not been able to get any white fur from my main source. However, I have had multiple requests for snow commissions. It was only recently I have been able to get white fur. Hence, a snow table for Kalissa's Tournaments!

However, I did not get to play a game on my creation until after the first tournament. So Kalissa and I with two other friends decided to play Normandy Firefight, since it gave an excuse to play with my winter troops I had painted up. This is there second game being used ever! It was Thomas and Kalissa with the Americans versus Dale and I with the Germans. It was a silly game of patrols running into each other. I must say that my partner/teammate was rather rash. Charging the enemy with no hits and throwing lots of grenades. We lost more people to friendly grenades than being shot at. But it was fun, and that was what mattered! Here are some pictures. I will most likely do a tutorial for my snow mat in the near future. Enjoy!

AAR: Normandy Firefight: Dutch Resistance Scouting Mission Gone Wrong.

Kalissa and I decided to break up the Fantasy Fest we had been playing with Lord of the Rings. When you play the same game system a lot, it tends to burn you out with the game. Besides, we have lots of game systems to play. We bought out Normandy Firefight and our Lord of the Rings stuff to Hobbytown, U.S.A. to play either. It turns out, despite the many players of Lord of the Rings that showed up, they decided to watch how our game came out. I think some of the players were intrigued that you need so little when it comes to figures. We still play a lot of figures for this game being at the number of five per side. I know that we live dangerously!
In this game, Kalissa's Dutch Resistance was to scout ahead and report any German activity. The idea was that after contact, they would send somebody back to get more reinforcements. I think in these rules, that means another figure instead on my version of 20 men. None of her people were able to do this. I had some decent luck to say the least. I should have lost my main leader when I was shot nearly point blank with a captured MG34. I lost only one guy charging that said MG, but not by the MG. A grenade I threw killed him and reduced the MG guy down to 4% health. I was able to kill three out of the five before Kalissa withdrew. I don't think we represented these rules at the fullest of our normal gaming. Normally, it would be a grenade fest. Only one was thrown the whole game and caused me to kill one of my own guys. It happens!

AAR: Normandy Firefight: Another Victory for Veterans.

It was recently that Kalissa and I ventured out towards the local Hobbytown, U.S.A for the Thursday night gaming. Apparently, this has been going on for a while, but it is a school night after all. It happens, even with the teachers in the world. Essentially, we were going out to play our last games for the year of 2018. Since my in-laws were visiting randomly in the weekend, we might as well play on Thursday. We brought to games to play, so the next post is going to be the second game.
Now on to Normandy Firefight! This is still one game system Kalissa and I find ourselves playing. If there ever was a good enough reason, it is grenades. I cannot stress how much of a game changer that is. This is especially true when stupid game stuff happens. In our game, I ran my veteran Germans. We had found previous sheets of our last game with names on them for our characters. The last game, I had one man killed, so naturally, my replacement had a different name. Kalissa lost nearly everyone, but this did not mean she would not recycle the names. I would look at this as gaming "bad luck". Her men seemed to all be Highlanders. And the "bad luck" did play out!
I am not saying that one of the Highlanders would have won the Darwin Award, but he did! In the mist of throwing grenades, both Kalissa and I found ourselves in a pickle. I had one German pinned down with a grenade primed. Kalissa had two men in the same situation nearly all within 8" apart. 10" are all you need to feel the effects of the grenade. I survived both the first and the second grenade. Kalissa's men did not. One man, in the heat of the moment, fired his Sten Gun at my German nearest to him forgetting about the whole holding a primed grenade thing. This was following by that said fellow blowing himself to smithereens! I dare say, that would have not been a celebrated man, if he had survived, considering the same blast killed another man and wounded another severely. It was awesome! The end game was the Germans losing one man, which was the replacement! It made sense! Below are the photos.
